Construction SA/Partner
Exceptional opportunity for a senior construction lawyer who may not have a portable practice, but is keen for a firm to support them in building one.
- Work closely with a well regarded, "new generation" Construction Partner
- Receive full backing of the firm in building your practice
- Superb equity arrangement, carpark, work life balance
This is a superb opportunity for Senior Construction Lawyers (at either a Senior Associate, Special Counsel or Partnership level) to join this highly enviable, up and coming team. If you are chasing Partnership or equity and have stalled in a larger firm/team due to it being top heavy, this is one to seriously consider.
The team
The role will see you working closely with a very talented, back and front end construction lawyer who currently oversees a junior lawyer and some support staff. Furthermore, this is a relatively new and exciting team to watch – with the Partner having been with the firm just shy of three years having left a preeminent boutique building and construction law firm.
Impressively, the firm backed them from day one (seeing the distinct opportunity in their talents) and within 18 months of joining the firm they made equity.
During this time, they have been involved in several landmark building and construction disputes and continue to win very enticing work, whilst other competing teams are starting to twiddle their thumbs as many matters come to a close.
If anything, the Partner has been so successful since joining the firm that there is now a large overspill of work that can be fed to the new person who joins the team. This in turn will free up the Partner to get involved in more marketing and BD opportunities, especially as they are very active in hosting presentations and workshops regarding construction law and presenting externally for many seminar organisations.
Whats Required
The successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of 5-6 years PAE Construction Law experience, preferably with a largely back end/litigious focus. There is however plenty of scope for a 50/50 split of front and back end work. Candidates will be considered from both large and boutique firms. The driving factor is the technical competence of the applicant.
Whats of offer long term?
If you have stalled in a large firm with Partnership or Equity seeming almost unreachable, this is most certainly delve into further. Not only will you receive interesting work, a good work/life balance (with relatively empty offices come 6pm each day) you will get the opportunity to progress to Partnership and then equity very quickly.
The firm are also open to offering Partnership to candidates who might not be there at their current firm and who may not have a portable practice to bring. This is relatively unheard of at other firms in this day and age.
Finally, equity is a “ticket to ride” system whereby you sign for a loan and when you retire, the firm repays the loan. The firm also pays interest on the loan to you and if you have good enough credit, will secure the loan. Finally, all partners are equal in distributions and liabilities at the firm which is to account for when some have good years and bad – believing it all washes out in the end.
